Campus Federal needed a plan in place for a promised new location. Their sponsor, Louisiana State University, would provide Campus Federal space in the renovated main campus student union, replacing a 700 square foot store-front branch. Campus Federal, located statewide in LSU medical centers, also had opportunities to revamp those branches, not touched in years. Leaving the medical center sites was out of the question, but in order to pave the way for a network wide refresh, Campus Federal needed a plan.

To complicate matters, the Shreveport market had grown up around the Pierremont location. But was a community focus in Shreveport the right move; should they expand the drive-thru only branch? And if not, where should they be to serve their core membership? Lot’s of moving parts.

Campus turned to Momentum and long time partner, Weber Marketing group. We listened to the management team’s priorities and together determined that a forward thinking, integrated planning effort would give Campus Federal the tools necessary to gain University approvals and develop a state-wide strategic approach.

University priorities can be a moving target and the economy was shifting. As opportunities developed, Campus Federal would be ready to act quickly. They would have a tangible vision of a consistent approach to branches; it would be approved and it would be actionable.

The plan had 5 major pieces:

  1. Brand refresh: A name change was not necessary. What was needed was an updated approach to look, feel, color pallet, and the message being sent. Getting current and on message made great sense after 10 years.
  2. Prototype Branch Development: What are their business objectives? How do they envision their branches going forward to maximize relationship development, create awareness, and showcase high-value services, lift staff to their potential and translate their brand? What kind of branch will create member bliss? Momentum took them through a proven process to answer these questions, and more.
  3. Merchandising Prototype: Developed hand in hand with the branch, merchandising elements were defined, opportunities were identified…the baseline for powerful branch communications was created.
  1. Branch Audits: Momentum and Weber Marketing visited every location and developed a site by site situation assessment. A set of primary and secondary priority recommendations are in place…including schedule and cost.
  2. Analyze the Shreveport market: Data is valuable. We prioritize that data, and with years of planning experience, interpret it to maximize market potential. We tell you where, when, and how big so you can hit the target dead on.

Campus Federal now has the tools in place to systematically update its branch network. Seven sites in three cities…in one fell swoop.

It’s not necessarily the right time to build. The circumstances need to be right before committing precious capital. You need to know that you have the right plan and the right team to get it done. Campus Federal now has both and when the time is right, Campus Federal is loaded for bear, or Tiger, as the case may be.
