The Albany membership was added to Red Canoe Credit Union through a merger. All by itself in an offbeat location, Albany served a growing, vibrant community and had been high on the strategic list to be better located all along. This was a market that had an established, profitable branch, and had real potential for growth. All Red Canoe needed was the right location.
Sometimes patience can be your best ally. Red Canoe needed to hit the bullseye in this market and with Momentum's help, tested and rejected numerous sites holding out for the right opportunity. Red Canoe would make a substantial investment in this market; we knew it needed to be right, not just right now.
Enter the Cash King site. The irony is in the name...
Due diligence was the first and perhaps the most important step. We've had experience with revitalizing property, lots of it, and we don't like surprises (read about the Kelso Branch). The price was certainly right; if we could make this location work, Red Canoe would have an award winning prototype on the 50 yard line in the market. Time to roll up our sleeves.
The site was tested. The existing building was surveyed for hazardous materials and the design team worked through the new zoning code with the city. No stone unturned. Proper preparation before demolition saved Red Canoe over $50,000 in new development fees. There is real money under those stones.
With this strategy, Red Canoe could make a commitment to the revitalization of the city and in so doing give its administration the horsepower necessary to thrive. Definitely a win/win.
We had a great prototype, and in this case, showing up prepared was the right answer. We quickly got the site issues on the table and the branch prototype was adapted to take advantage of the amazing visibility. The city was thrilled and Momentum was able to establish the cost and set a tight schedule. We had, after all, built this prototype twice already and we get better and faster every time. The Red Canoe Board gave their thumbs up and the sale was finalized.
There is no better recipe for peace of mind than an integrated approach and a seasoned team. Especially when the new location is 140 miles from home. The Albany Branch will showcase Red Canoe in an important market. It will improve access, service, and awareness and it will do it through a highly efficient branch built by the community, to grow with the community for years to come.
Location, location, location...
