What do you do when the Fortune 500 SEG that is your namesake revokes the use of their name after over 50 years and requires your credit union to disassociate itself in every visible way?

If you're Red Canoe Credit Union, you engage the best credit union brand, strategy, and facilities team in the country to develop a new name, reinvent your brand, translate that brand into a national award winning branch prototype, and build a regional strategy to continue your successful legacy of growth.

Getting ready to go with the first prototype location took some time and a lot of hard work. Once these tools were in hand the team located a prime site in a new retail center for the first location; the Puyallup branch.

The demographics couldn't be better. An existing membership within a great convenience radius and the traffic; an incredible 40,000 cars per week into the center alone!

Sites like this don't come cheap, so the first task was to ensure that the branch maximized the opportunity and that WalMart would get on board. After 2 months of planning and negotiations with the super retailer, a plan was ready and the site changed hands.

This prototype branch would hold all the service capacity of the last branch built 4 years prior and do it in only 2,800 square feet of space; a 48% reduction with no sacrifice by the members. Not only was the branch almost twice as efficient on a site half the size, it included adjacent lease space that could accommodate growth for years to come. All in 5,000 square feet.

Momentum broke ground and turned over the facility in record time, almost 5 weeks ahead of schedule. Over 7% of the project cost was returned to Red Canoe in savings reducing the total cost of a Red Canoe prototype branch by almost $1,000,000 when compared to the last branch built.

Red Canoe Credit Union continues to work with our team to integrate the brand and merchandising into every aspect of their organization. Four new locations are under construction or on the boards. No stopping them now.

The Red Canoe name, the brand, and the resulting branch have not only received accolades from members but we have lost count of the awards this work has won. From national brand recognition, to a sweep at the league show, to a national retail award in the financial facilities category.
