When it comes to community, Fibre Federal Credit Union stands with the best. For 63 years Fibre has served its community and its membership; right downtown. But town just isn't what it once was and progress notwithstanding, the global economy can be tough on timber industry based communities.
After 8 years of renewed growth and organizational evolution led by CEO Larry Hoff, Fibre looked up and realized that its operations staff just couldn't serve its membership well into the future stacked like...well like cord wood. Time for a change.
Fibre needed an operations strategy for the long term. That strategy needed to be based in community. It needed to be sustainable; an example of commitment and dedication to the future of the membership and the city it grew up in. Most of all it needed to be high value. Capital is king and member resources needed to be spent with great care.
Mr. Hoff turned to our partner Paul Seibert, a long time associate, and to Momentum for help. Our team defined the needs and developed a clear operations strategy exploring numerous options to make it real. Redevelop outside of town where land was cheap? Relocate? All viable options to be sure.
In the end, Fibre turned back to its community. With Momentum, a campus strategy was defined and a site was identified right across the street. Careful planning and creative work with the city enabled us to propose a 43,000 square foot facility using adjacent property to support staff parking needs. We would have a direct walkway connection to the main branch. Operations staff, still very much involved in the branches would have "next door" access and get the space they needed to really shine. The building would be designed with "green" in mind. It would also have room for growth, providing lease income in the interim.
With this strategy, Fibre could make a commitment to the revitalization of the city and in so doing give its administration the horsepower necessary to thrive. Definitely a win/win.
The "brownfield" site was cleaned up; the defunct lumber warehouse was removed and recycled and a state of the art facility was developed right on schedule. Fibre insisted that local talent be first priority on the construction team. No problem, in fact, we wouldn't have it any other way. Momentum project managers are outstanding talent scouts and with Fibre's participation, built a local "A" team that delivered the facility not only on time, but over $500,000 under budget. This during a time when costs were escalating at almost 2% per month!
When complete, a long time member of the board said..."we don't expect to save on anything these days, thank you for a great job." Thank you Fibre. Thank you for the opportunity to work with such a terrific team!
