Sandia Area Federal Credit Union will celebrate their newly transformed Rio Rancho branch with a Grand Re-Opening Celebration event on Saturday, May 17!
The new Rio Rancho branch represents the first application of the credit union’s new branch prototype, developed in partnership with national design-build firm, Momentum.
The reimagined branch reflects Sandia Area’s bold vision for the future of member service and employee experience. With wide-open sight lines, natural light, and thoughtful local design elements, the space delivers a warm, inviting atmosphere that fosters meaningful connections. Visitors are greeted by views of the Sandia Mountains framed through dramatic plate glass windows, complemented by artwork and photography that celebrate the Albuquerque metro area’s landscape and community.
This transformation brings an operational shift. As everyday transactions shift to digital channels, Sandia Area is redefining its branch experience as a consultative, relationship-focused environment. The teller line and enclosed offices of the past have given way to an open layout that empowers Universal Associates to meet members where they are—whether at a café-style table for an in-depth conversation or at a quick-serve area for faster service.
“As our members grow and move through their life, and as they bring their children and grandchildren, it’s important that our branch spaces create this connection between our staff, our members, and our brand,” said Kevin Todd, President and CEO of Sandia Area. “We’ve developed this new prototype and are updating our branches to enable lasting connections so that our members will always encounter a consistent experience that becomes synonymous with Sandia Area.”
The Rio Rancho branch also introduces a flexible community room, designed to fit 12-18 attendees for financial education seminars, nonprofit gatherings, and small business meetings. Accessible outside of normal operating hours via the front vestibule, the space reinforces Sandia Area’s role as a trusted community partner, offering resources that extend beyond traditional banking services.
