CommonWealth Central Credit Union

Gilroy branch | Design Build

the goals

Bring CommonWealth to Gilroy with a branch that feels
welcoming, not institutional — rooted in the character of
the community it serves

Project Background

CommonWealth Central Credit Union was ready to grow south, and Gilroy was the place to do it. Known as the Garlic Capital of the World, the city had the culture and community spirit they wanted to be part of. CommonWealth wanted a space that could introduce who they are: a community partner focused on relationships and financial wellness.

The site was a warm shell in a Spanish-style building at one of Gilroy’s busiest intersections, with a former bank space inside and a drive-up ATM out front. The challenge was to turn 2,200 square feet of blank interior into something inherently CommonWealth and
unmistakably Gilroy.

Welcoming by Design

Momentum designed the branch around CommonWealth’s Universal Associate model, where cross-trained staff meet members at open advisory pods rather than across a teller line.

A member onboarding table greets people at the entry, along with a waiting lounge area anchored with a fireplace creating a hospitality-centered environment for members to linger.

Wood-beam accents overhead, plank paneling, live-edge surfaces, and a soft palette of blues and greens
carry a calm, serene feeling throughout — welcoming,
approachable, and easy to be in.

Rooted in Gilroy

The branch tells a local story. A Community Highlight
wall creates flexible merchandising space to spotlight
Gilroy businesses.

With its Gilroy branch, CommonWealth planted more
than a new location south of its footprint. They gave the
community a welcoming place to connect, learn, and
be known — and gave themselves a home in a market
they’re proud to be part of.
